Clinton Street Theater screens a new series from Gathr Previews including the Portland premiere of Ain’t In It For My Health: A Film About Levon Helm. This portrait of The Band’s renowned singer/drummer and his musical lifetime on the road. finds Helm at home in Woodstock creating his first studio album in 25 years. The ultimate survivor, overcoming drugs, bankruptcy, the Band’s breakup and a bout of throat cancer, Levon Helm wasn’t in it for his health, May 14 at 9 pm

Also this month at CST, Reel Relics rock n roll films is a twice-monthly feature. This month’s retro concert treats:

May 10-11 Slowhand a performance movie featuring Eric Clapton. In 1979, Clapton put his band in a three-carriage train and toured the continent. Interviews with Clapton are balanced with performances by Muddy Waters, Elton John, George Harrison, and the EC band in concert. Footage from Clapton live in London, 1977 will also be screened.

May 24-25 Who is Poly Styrene/X-Ray Spex? A 1979 BBC production featuring the music of the band fronted by Poly Styrene in studio and onstage. Styrene talks about her writing process, her plans to go to college, and memories of leaving home while still a teen. Also featured: Siouxsie and the Banshees live in London between 1978 and 1980.
