The Richmond Neighborhood Association held its monthly meeting on May 13, 2013 at Waverly Heights Church at SE 33rd and Woodward St.   RNA meetings are held in the church basement; enter from the east-side door.  The RNA’s website is www.richmondpdx.org.

The RNA Board held its annual board election;  6 board seats were open.  Deidre DeMerrit, Allen Field, Cliff Hutchinson, Karin Maczko were reelected, Bonnie Bray was elected to a full Board seat (she was previously sharing a board seat), and one spot remains open.  Officer elections and a discussion and vote on proposed Bylaws was set for June.

The 2013 Richmond Street Tree Inventory seeks volunteers to collect data on street trees in Richmond. This is a great opportunity to learn about the different tree varieties. Volunteers will be paired with a Team Leader.  The dates are: July 20 (Sat.), August 8 (Thurs), August 17 (Sat.), September 7 (Sat.); all are at 8:30 am – noon. . Be Smart! Prepare! The Richmond Emergency Preparedness free workshops are coming up. These events are put on by neighbors, for neighbors, everyone is welcome. The first workshop, Every Plan Begins At Home, is Saturday, June 1, 9 am – noon at Central Christian Church. The second workshop, The Kit, is Sunday, June 23, 1 – 4 pm at Echo Theatre (Do Jump). In July we will host the third and fourth workshops at Waverly Congregational Church:  Home Strengthening on Wednesday, July 10, 6:30 – 8:45 pm, and Neighborhood Networking on Thursday, July 25, 6:30 – 8:45 pm. From mid-June to mid-July, Richmond Elementary School will install a Nature Walk at the NW corner of the property, next to the parking lot.  It will include a rain garden, native northwest plants, benches, and engraved paver inlay. To help fund the project, Richmond Elementary is selling engraved dedications on bricks for $50 or $100 which will include English and/or Japanese engraving.

Construction on the Division Streetscape project has begun and will continue for the next 18 months. For more information, go to http://www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/61389, and to receive email updates, email Joseph.Annett@portlandoregon.gov with “Division” in the subject line.  The Rose City sewer project will entail construction on SE 39th/Cesar Chavez Blvd, closing the street at SE Harrison from  June 28 to July 18.   Signs will redirect traffic, please drive cautiously.  It was asked that signs be posted well ahead of these areas to alert bicyclists.
