Louie Louie Day?

In 1963, five young Portland men went into a studio at 13th and Burnside and recorded their version of Richard Berry’s Louie Louie in two hours for $50. The City of Portland and the Oregon Music Hall of Fame have declared October 5 Louie Louie Day and the official announcement takes place September 5 at 4 pm with a plaque dedication ceremony at the site of the studio where the Kingsmen recorded the song, 411 SW 13th Ave. The city will close the street and have four area high school bands performing it too led by the Mayor himself!

Portland area radio stations are asked to play the song at exactly 4:57 pm on September 5. Let’s face it: three chords and an attitude is at its best coming out of a car radio. Also October 5, The Kingsmen will perform at the OMHOF Induction Ceremony – honoring Oregon’s legacy musicians and raising funds for music education and college scholarships. Find out how you can go kablooey Louie too at www.omhof.org .
