Destination DIY

Destination DIY is an locally-produced radio show with stories about creativity. It returns to the airwaves Oct. 19 and 26 on OPB radio at noon.

Hosted by Julie Sabatier, this is not a “how-to” show. It goes beyond home improvement and crafts to explore ways people are working with limited resources to create rather than consume the world around them.

Oct. 19, features biologists working to democratize the lab, a single mom who says some things are easier on your own and a doctor who helped craft Oregon’s Death with Dignity law before using it to end his own life years later.

Oct. 26 features stories about house construction, moving by bike, “hacking” reality, and human space flight. You’ll also hear about host Sabatier’s own DIY project: growing all of her own wedding flowers.

Makin’ It, is an informal live version of the show at ADX, 417 SE 11th Ave. Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 7-9 pm. The public is invited and the $3-5 suggested donation includes free beer and pizza.
