Precarious real life moments

Authors Natalie Serber and Stevan Allred  read from their linked short story collections Thursday, Nov. 7, at Broadway Books, 1714 NE Broadway beginning at 7 pm.

Serber is an inner SE resident and her new book is Shout Her Lovely Name, a New York Times Notable Book released in June. She’s the recipient of the Tobias Wolff Award, H.E. Francis Award, John Steinbeck Award, and finalist for the Annie Dillard Creative Nonfiction Award.

“Currently,” she writes, “I am working on a novel about the geometry of family life; the families we are born into and the families we create and sustain by choice. We each reveal our best and worst selves within our homes and somehow, through it all, we mostly continue to love each other. That conflict and dedication interests me, both within our homes and within ourselves.” Read more at her website natalieserber.com.

Allred is author of A Simplified Map of the Real World, published by Forest Avenue Press, a new Portland-based small press. He lives in rural Clackamas County and teaches writing at The Pinewood Table with Joanna Rose. www.stevanallred.com or forestavenuepress.com .
