Portland’s CJ Hurley has spent this year in his small studio creating paintings. His primary theme is balance. Spiritual traditions speak of balance as the underlying principle of the universe. A new exhibit called The Nature of Balance: Metaphor for Life features his recent work and opens First Friday, December 6 at the Olympic Mills Commerce Center, 107 SE Washington St. from 5 – 8 pm, on the walls through January 3.
Investigating two and three dimensional design, Hurley combines sculpture, painting, and craft, fashioning art with “the luminosity of cellular enameling and stained glass”. The collection includes five intricate, recent paintings that hang alongside older work in evolution.
Hurley is a Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan and member of Northwest Designer Craftsmen. His website is www.cjhurley.com.
