“Moving Up and Out” by Madeline Janovec

Janovec, born on Valentine’s Day in 1935, departed March 4, 2011. A motivating, inspirational person in Portland’s artist community, she established the Oregon Chapter of the Woman’s Caucus for Art and in 2000, opened Janovec Gallery in SE Portland.

She created a series of exchange exhibitions between Daegu, South Korea and Portland toward the last of her life. A solo exhibit of her jewelry and monotypes was featured at the Woobong Art Museum in Daegu and Madeline Janovec leaves us all a legacy of dedication to the arts and to artists.

Jones’ painted stories are in oil on canvas and abstract in form inspired by the trees of the northwest. She observes their uniqueness, their natural way of displaying strength, shelter and grace.

First Friday reception is February 7 from 6 to 9 pm. An artists’ reception is Sunday, February 9 at 2 pm. www.12x16gallery.com/ 503.432.3513.
