Montavilla February 2014

By Joanna Beatty

Portland Community College’s SE Campus in the SE corner of Montavilla has been rapidly expanding and we received an update on progress at our January meeting.  The $34 million construction brings a new school library facing SE Division and a new student services and bookstore at the SE 82nd-SE Division corner.

Buildings will also house public retail spaces. Additional changes include a large plaza onsite, restoration of the former historic German American Society building, roadway improvements along SE 80th, and a future childcare center in the former Kaiser building at SE 77th and SE Division. Enrollment is predicted to at least double over the next handful of years, bringing new energy to the neighborhood.

Post Five Theatre, a professional theatre production company housed at Mile Post Five, continues to bring performances to life with casting open to community members.  Check out postfivetheatre.org/tickets/fertile-ground-festival-2014 for the latest shows.

A few fun things to add to your calendar:  Saturday, March 1 is Bridger School’s annual fundraiser. The Building Bridges for Bridger Auction promises to be a fun-filled night. Learn more and purchase tickets online at bridgerpta.schoolauction.net/auction2014.

Saturday, March 29 from 9 am-3 pm, check out a great rummage sale at the Montavilla Community Center. We hope you’ll add MNA monthly meetings to your calendar.  Join us each second Monday at 7:30 pm at Montavilla United Methodist Church, 232 SE 80th Ave.  Parking and childcare are free and plentiful. Next meetings are February 10 and March 10.
