Sunday new music at Blue Monk is still hot and happening! The series, curated by saxophonist Mary Sue Tobin features outstanding  new music from all over the country. This month of Sundays features Battle Hymns and Gardens featuring Reed Wallsmith and Joe Cunningham from Blue Cranes on March. 9; Michal Angela Wilson, March 16; Jim Olsen and Friends, March. 23.

Rebirth of The Cool plays March 29. Formed by David Watson and Pete Petersen to play charts from the Birth Of The Cool era, (a mid-1950’s music shift with arrangements and instrumentation infused with classical music’s polyphony, moving jazz from Hot to Cool). The group plays originals and from Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker.

The band consists of Watson and Petersen, Lee Wuthenow, Mary Sue Tobin, Levis Dragulin, Shaun Congos, Laura Cunard, Andre St. James and Tim Rap.

Blue Monk is at 3341 SE Belmont St. Tickets are $5 – 10 sliding scale and the first set is open to all-ages at 8 pm. Second set is 21+ over.
