Independent Women is a “devised” play mashing up ideas and images of Rosie the Riveter with Beyonce; a contemplation of women entering the work force in WWII with what it means to be a modern woman in these times.

During World War II women entered the workforce in large numbers for the first time in history, often taking traditionally male jobs. That eventually transitioned into the growing trend of women as breadwinners in today’s economy.

Made up of original words, found text, song and sweet dance moves, The play is directed by Ashley Hollingshead March 6 – 22, Thurs.-Sat. nights, (March 17 too). All shows 8 pm at Action/Adventure Theatre 1050 SE Clinton St.

Tickets are $12 in advance www.socialsciencesproductions.com $15 at the door.
