Cello Project member steps out solo

Anna Fritz (Portland Cello Project) is a dynamic cellist and thoughtful folksinger. Justice, human spirit, gender and the natural world are her musical and lyrical themes. She accompanies her songwriting and storytelling with a cello of many voices.

Her new album, The Gospel of Tree Bark, can be heard at annafritz.com.

Fellow Portland Cello Project alumnus Gideon Freudmann inspired her to experiment with chords and strum the cello like a guitar. “That blew open my songwriting ability,” she says. “I started seeing the cello as a chord-based instrument as I never had before, and that made it possible to create song structures and not just a melody. It made it more possible to accompany myself singing too.”

Erin Eichenberger opens, an Oregon songwriter with songs at www.reverbnation.com/erineichenberger. Both musicians perform an solo set and collaborations are in the evening’s mix too.

Songwriters Anna Fritz and Erin Eichenberger appear in concert Saturday April 12, at 7 pm at Multnomah Quaker Friends Meetinghouse, 4312 SE Stark St. Tickets at the door $8 – $20 sliding scale.
