AURORA LUCIS: MUSIC FOR EASTERTIDE, a concert by Cantores In Ecclesia, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 1112 SE 41st Ave., Friday, May 9, 7:30 pm. The repertoire includes works by Handel, Lassus, Palestrina, Taverner and Victoria and James MacMillan. For more than 30 years, Cantores in Ecclesia has performed in Mexico, Spain, France, England and Italy and for the Latin mass every Saturday evening. www.cantoresinecclesia.org. EARTHEN FLOORS, A Modern Approach To An Ancient Practice is a new book 2 years in the making by SE Portland’s Natural building consultant and artist Sukita Reay Crimmel and co-authored by James Thomson. A book celebration is planned for Friday, May 16 from 5 pm – 8 pm at Migration Brewing 2828 NE Glisan St. www.sukita.com. Kids are welcome too!

 

RACHEL WEAVER’S POINT OF DIRECTION, is a book about Anna, a climber, and fisherman, Kyle, who agree to become caretakers of a remote Alaskan lighthouse. It was written in a 10 x 10 cabin in the wilderness by Weaver between bear-tagging assignments. Weaver worked for years as a bear biologist for the Forest Service and subsistence fisherman and she does a reading from her novel at Powell’s on Hawthorne, 3723 SE Hawthorne Blvd. May 19, 7:30 pm.

 

RECYCLED RAIN SHOW – Over 30 days, local artists created works using collected rainwater. The goal was to highlight simple ways to rethink the way we use water. The exhibit opens Saturday, May 10 at 6 pm at the Olympic Mills Building 107 SE Washington St. and continues through June 14. This year 20% of each sale is donated to Portland’s Human Access Project. HAP, a non-profit seeking to transform Portland’s relationship with the Willamette River. The gallery is open Mon-Fri 8 am-10 pm and Sat/Sun Noon-10 pm.

 

pool (no water) by Mark Ravenhill and Theatre Vertigo continues through May 10 at Shoebox Theater, 2110 SE 10th Ave. Directed by Samantha Van Der Merwe, wherein a successful artist invites old friends to a reunion. A sudden accident puts an end to the reunion’s nostalgia, putting the host into a coma. The artists transform shock and suffering into their latest work of art.
