Two different plays performed alternately at Back Door Theater, 4319 SE Hawthorne Blvd. by Defunkt Theatre May 9 – June 14.

Fewer Emergencies by Martin Crimp is a trilogy of tales dealing with how we process the threat of violence and terrorism in contemporary society. Does that 24-hour news cycle numb us to the horrors of gun violence? How do we move forward after a tragedy? Crimp’s wit and dark humor magnify the contradictions of these times.

Betty’s Summer Vacation by Christopher Durang won an Obie award for skewering celebrity media culture where private lives, national tragedies, sex scandals and legal proceedings are packaged and sold for public consumption.

Both shows contain adult content and are for ages 17 and up. Reservations are encouraged as space is limited. For tickets and schedule, see defunktheatre.com 503.481.2960.
