CAPTURING THE WILD STORM is Claudia F. Savage’s beginning poetry class. Share the work of poets you love, make your own poems, collaborate and focus on writing to capture a moment more deeply. Sun. ALICE IN WONDERLAND, a new musical adaptation with masks and puppets is presented by Tears of Joy Theatre and performed at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Ave. The play opens Friday Nov. 14 at 7:30 pm and runs Saturdays and Sunday through Nov. 23. UKULELE CLASSES FOR KIDS/SONG STUDY FOR ADULTS begin in November at Artichoke Music.Ukulele can be perfect for children learning to play their first instrument. Classes for beginning and intermediate children age 7+ and a special class for children age 5-6. The adult class will study a different song each week by Canada’s Stan Rogers. PIANIST MICHAEL ALLEN HARRISON performs a benefit concert for the Altar Society, Monday, December 1, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 2408 SE 16th Ave. beginning at 7 pm. The church’s lively acoustics will sparkle with the sound of Harrison’s lyrical piano and the soaring vocals of guest Julianne Johnson. DIRTY, STUPID MUSIC: AN EVENING OF CABARET, Sunday, November 16, 6:30 pm at Vie de Boheme, 1530 SE 7th Ave. A musical journey into the history of cabaret with the music of Schoenberg, Weill, Satie, Poulenc, and Brel. Modern composers are part too: Bolcom, Heggie, Bucchino and others. The result is an “evening of provocative and heart-wrenching music”. Featured singers Vakare Petroliunaite, Liz Bacon, Beth Madsen Bradford, Stephen Marc Beaudoin and Joe Theissen accompanied by David Saffert at the piano. French composer Erik Satie named the evening thusly: You know that I have composed cafe-concert music./I gave this sort of music up long ago./That was no field for me to be working in./It is more stupid and dirty than anything.

 

BLOOD CREEK WOODSMAN is a new NW Indie Horror Flick and Clinton Street Theater hosts the world premiere Sunday November 16, at 4 pm. $5 cash gets you in the door and there’ll be a cast Q&A and prize drawings following the flick too. The movie was shot mostly in Marquam and Silverton, with a few scenes in Portland, Keizer, Corvallis, Peoria, Ankeny Hill and Mt. Angel. FINDING ECSTASY – Given the choice between chocolate or sex, SE author Rebecca Pillsbury always chose chocolate, at least until a series of transformational experiences helped her let go of three decades of shame. AFRICAN-RHYTHM DANCE CLASS Lalanya Cameron is a Portland native and professional dancer. She teaches a weekly African-Rhythm dance class for adults at New Day Center for the Arts, 5516 SE Foster Ave., Thursdays for $15. Class begins at 6:15 pm and has live drummers, to give the class unusual power and the dancers a point of focus outside themselves.

 

ACROBATIC CONUNDRUM Seattle’s premiere contemporary circus company’s latest original show is called A Book is Not a Ladder. Created by KT Niehoff and Terry Crane,  this circus event runs November 28 through 30 at Echo Theatre, 1515 SE 37th Ave. Fri. at 8 pm; Sat at 6:30 pm; Sunday at 5 pm.
