A red bat in a bathtub museum …within a hidden library

Portland artist Carye Bye’s creative endeavors manifest in three mediums. She’s assembled a collection representing her three lives and is revealing them to the world to see all at one time.

ared-bat-origThe Three Lives Open Studio Show is Saturday February 7 at Red Bat Studio, 211 SE Madison St. from 11 am to 6 pm for one day only.

This three-headed Hydra of art and expression consists of:

• The Red Bat Press represents Bye’s printer and designer self. A small art press using woodcut illustration and letterpress type since 2002 is hosting a Valentine Sale. Her best-known work is the “10 Bridges of the Willamette” postcard set.

• The Bathtub Art Museum was established in 2004 and expresses Bye’s curator self. All about the Art of the Bath, the main collection is 400 bathtub postcards with a special focus on a Valentine collection for this Love Show.

The Hidden Portland Library and publication release party celebrates Bye’s Artist-in-Residence in an ongoing art and history project focusing on the City as a Museum. It includes tours and publications and a collaborative group on social media and began  in 2007.
