Zen Shorts, is a collaboration between Portland’s Tears of Joy Theatre and Los Angeles’ Rogue Artists Ensemble based on the Caldecott Honor book by Jon J. Muth, It is presented February 6 – 8  and 14 -15 at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Ave The collaboration combins the Rogue Artists’ production with local Tears of Joy puppeteers.

“Michael, there’s a really big bear in the backyard.” This is how two children, Michael and Addy meet. Stillwater is a giant Zen Master-panda who moves into their neighborhood and tells them three ancient Zen koans to help them learn more about each other and themselves and how they experience the world. The tales are told melding classic Asian-inspired traditions of Bunraku and shadow puppetry with original songs, special effects and over 50 different puppets.
