Neighborhood Notes South Tabor May 2015

By Ute Munger

With Spring in full bloom, most neighborhoods are getting ready for their annual Clean-Up, as is South Tabor. The date is set for Saturday, May 23, 9 am – 1 pm in the parking lot behind Trinity Fellowship Church at 2700 SE 67th. To volunteer and find info, email cleanup@southtabor.org. Yes, we need all of you, come early and stay late.

Representatives Jesse Rodli and Teresa Culbertson of Trinity Fellowship explained the recent closure of the church’s green space to dogs. Abuse to the lawn had increased and responsibility for clean-up of feces by some dog owners had been greatly lacking. Normal activities of children playing there had ceased and closure was imminent. Currently only dogs on leash are permitted and less than a month after closure the green space has already recovered some of its beauty and children are back to playing safely.

The now empty furniture store on the corner of SE 82nd and Division St. has been purchased by Metro and will be undergoing changes in the future. South Tabor’s input was requested on the concerns for that area and possible building use. Lack of parking seems to be one of the bigger issues.

The STNA May meeting will include elections for the offices of Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, which are one year terms. The office of President is a two year term. Also needed is a delegate to represent South Tabor at SE Uplift (SEUL), plus a SEUL Land Use and Transportation Representative. Any resident or business owner of South Tabor, over the age of 18 is eligible to vote. Make an effort and make your voice heard Thursday, May 21 at 7 pm at Trinity Fellowship, 2700 SE 67th, enter from parking lot.

When all the work is done, have an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend and give some thought why we celebrate it.
