The Corporation fundraising for Bernie

A local fundraiser for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign takes place Monday, September 7, at Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St. The thought-provoking 2003 film The Corporation will be screened too. The evening begins at 7 pm. Admission is $5-10 sliding scale with no one turned away for lack of funds and all proceeds after expenses go to Sanders’ campaign.

Sanders was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 after 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives. He won his Senate seat with 71 percent of the vote in 2012. Currently he’s a 2016 Democratic candidate for President as well as the caucus’ ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee. He’s drawn massive crowds to his speeches across America this summer, including 24,000 earlier this month here.

The movie was based on the book, The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power by Joel Bakan. It’s part film and part movement as The Corporation takes its status as a legal “person” to the psychiatrist’s couch to ask “What kind of person is it?” Interviews with corporate insiders and critics include Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Milton Friedman, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva and others.
