Jenny Conlee, (keyboard and accordionist for The Decemberists, Black Prairie and many others) has released her first full-length album of instrumental music. It’s a collaboration with her producer/husband Steve Drizos.

Conlee’s French Kayaking Music, was written for the film Voyagers Without Trace by Ian McCluskey; a documentary about a French trio who kayaked the Green and Colorado rivers in 1938 and then disappeared into obscurity. Performed mostly on accordion and piano, the album echoes the music of France and the old west.

Conlee’s been listening to old recordings, learning French Musettes; accordion music from mid-1800s Paris popular for dancing in café’s. Steve Drizos (drummer for Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons) came in as recording engineer and then producer and composer.

The Portland Film Premiere of Voyagers Without Trace is Thursday October 22, at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry, 1945 SE Water Ave.) in the Empirical Theater. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the film begins at 7:30 pm.

The CD Release for French Kayaking Music is at the Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside St. on Sunday November 1 at 8 pm. The duo will be joined by an ensemble that includes members of Blue Cranes who open the evening. Tickets are $10 – $12 for 21+ over. More at jennyconlee.com.
