Broken Promises

Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark St. launches its national tour with the premiere of Broken Promises, a new story written by Olga Sanchez.

Amidst a backdrop of Latin hip hop, rhyme and choreography, the story shows how quickly teenagers get ensnared in the complicated terrifying underworld of sex trafficking.

Desperate for money, four teens living on the edge gamble their lives on prostitution. One of the teens, Adriana, becomes trapped before she knows it, in a life she cannot escape from.

Performances run January 14 – 23. The last three nights are part of the Fertile Ground Festival. The work was created in collaboration with Planned Parenthood, and is based on true life stories. Due to the content, the play is recommended for teens and up. No nudity or graphic scenes are shown onstage.

The play will be paired with Healthy Relationships Workshops and a free Women’s Health and Social Services Fair accompany the two-week run at Milagro.

After each performance, representatives from agencies providing services and resources for women and attorneys focused on sex trafficking join the actors for post-show discussions.

Tickets are $5-$30 and available online at milagro.org or by calling 503.236.7253. Discounts for students, seniors, veterans, groups 15+ and with Oregon Trail card.
