Upcoming BCA Meeting and Candidate Forum
Our next general meeting will be Thursday, March 10th, from 7 to 9 pm in the Board Room of the Multnomah County Building, located at 501 SE Hawthorne. The Board discusses business prior to the general meeting, from 6:20 to 7 pm. All are welcome at both meetings. (Meetings are always the second Thursday of the month.)
After important announcements, the general meeting this month will be fully devoted to a candidate forum of people running for the position of city commissioner. Please plan on attending and bringing your tough questions for the candidates. Refreshments will be provided, and feel free to bring something to share.

- Staff from PBOT will attend to talk about the Ankeny Neighborhood Project that the was discussed at the Nov 2014 Board meeting. The project has identified a traffic diverter on SE Ankeny at 15th Avenue, the installation of speed bumps on Ankeny between 20th & 28th Avenues, and the reconfiguration of speed bumps on Ankeny between 12th & 20th Avenues.

Kerns-Buckman Spring Community Collection Event
When: Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00AM to 12:00 PM
Where: Hinson Memorial Baptist Church, 1137 SE 20th Avenue. Enter on Salmon from 20th Avenue.
In time for spring, neighbors are invited to sort through their homes and yards and reduce clutter by bringing unwanted items to the Kerns and Buckman Community/Neighborhood Associations’ annual spring Community Collection Event for disposal. Bins tend to fill quickly so try to show up early in the event. Those items not immediately disposed of will be set aside in a free area of reusable items that anyone may take home with them.
Donation: $15-40 depending on load (bicyclists are free). Money raised goes toward the costs of the collection event and for other neighborhood events in the Kerns and Buckman communities.
Elderly and/or disabled residents of the Kerns & Buckman neighborhoods may arrange curbside pick-up by calling (503)482-8252.
Accepted Waste Materials: Bulk household waste of a non-biodegradable nature (paper, plastic, glass, cloth, metal), furniture, small appliances, tires. Yard debris. Paint cans without lids and dried paint are acceptable.
Accepted Recycling Materials: Computers, televisions, cell phones, LCD/CRT monitors, printers, and other electronics. No disassembled items, please.
Materials Currently Not Accepted:* Food waste or household garbage. Alkaline batteries, lithium/auto batteries, fluorescent bulbs. Large appliances (washers/dryers/ranges/refrigerators/air conditioners/water heaters), exercise equipment. Styrofoam, hazardous waste, or flammables.
*NOTE*: This year we must prohibit disposal of all materials from construction, remodelling, and demolition, due to risk of asbestos. Such materials include vinyl flooring tiles, sheet, mastic, ceiling acoustical tiles, popcorn & spray-on texture, plaster walls & decorative plaster, cement siding shingles (transite), insulation (spray-on, blown-in, vermiculite, pipe, HVAC, lagging), electrical wire insulation & panel partitions, AND fire doors, fire brick, or other fireproofing. We also cannot accept wood scrap, concrete, dirt, or paint.

Buckman Voice Newsletter Editor Sought:
Our fantastic Buckman Voice editor, Katherine Bovee,due to taking a new job, has just finished her final issue, and will no longer be able to donate her time and services to the layout and prep work of the BCA quarterly newsletter. We want to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Katherine and wish her well with her new job. With her leaving, we need a new editor, and have all the templates and graphics for the publication, as well as writers and a fantastic delivery coordinator. Mayoral Candidate Forum in April
Plan now to attend the April BCA Mayoral Forum where candidates for the top spot in Portland’s city government will come and try to via for your support. BCA 2016 Picnic Leads Sought
The Buckman Picnic in the Park is scheduled for Sunday, August 14th, 2016 4-8pm in Colonel Summers Park. This all-inclusive event has music, delicious complimentary bar-b-que meal, games and activities galore for all ages. Persons interested in helping to coordinator this year’s event are urged to contact the buckmanpicnicteam@gmail.com. We’ll have our first preliminary planning meeting in late April at some local watering hole. See you all soon!
