Beltaine has birthed their fifth album, Tilly’s Jig and they have two big release celebrations planned.
Saturday April 30, they’ll be at the Clan Donald of Oregon Ceilidh at the Oregon Trail American Legion Post #150, 8329 SE 89th Ave. at 7 pm. The next night, Sunday May 1, the quartet stretches out in an intimate concert setting at Café Artichoke, 3130 SE Hawthorne Blvd. also at 7 pm. Tickets $15 at the door. The space is small, so reservations are encouraged. 503.232.8845
In over a decade of performing and entertaining, the band’s traditional Irish and Scottish songs are set in non-traditional arrangements. Guitar, flute and accordion are seasoned with the sound of the hammered dulcimer, a percussive, melodic timbre not usually found in Celtic music.
Tilly’s Jig has both original and traditional instrumentals and the band’s core members are John Keys, hammered dulcimer, flute, vocals; Brian Baker, guitar, vocals, Kris Chase on hammered dulcimer and marimbula, and Jamie Vandenberg on accordion.
