Portand physician Scott Brown is director of Oregon Anesthesia Group Interventional Pain Consultants. He’s lived in his Hawthorne home for 17 years and at night after the anaesthesia wears off, he joins seven other musicians to play music as Ojos Feos. This energetic group plays originals blending minor blues and Afro-Latin rhythms with guaguanco, cumbia, samba, cha cha cha, songo, reggae, son Cubano and flamenco tangos.
Brown is the founder of a charity called Surg+Restore/Africa and the group’s mission is to fund and set up Sierra Leone’s first and only Reconstructive Surgery Department (surgandrestore.org).
Saturday May 7 at Vie de Boheme, 1530 SE 7th Ave., Ojos Feos plays live in a fundraiser for Surg+Restore. A short film about Sierra Leone screens at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door and $10 after 9 pm when the band hits the stage. Nobody will be sitting still at this show, that’s for sure. All ages are welcome too.
