Hughie

Imago Theatre presents Eugene O’Neill’s infamous one-act play, Hughie through September 18. Director Jerry Mouawad created the scenic design of O’Neill’s “perfect dramatic poem.”

From 3 to 4 am, on a New York City summer night in 1928, O’Neill has frozen time as a small-time hustler, Erie, sees magic in the mundane. He delivers an elaborate series of tales to the new Night Clerk, Charlie, and is plagued by the belief his luck has gone bad since his closest companion, also a night clerk named Hughie, recently died. Through Hughie’s eyes, Erie saw greatness in himself.

Performances are at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Ave., Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2. Tickets are $15 to $25 (sliding scale, pay what you can), available at 503.231.9581, or online at Ticketswest.com.
