TapWater

Portland’s World Twang sextet TapWater present an evening of spicy music with guests The Hill Dogs and a screening of a new kayaking film, Chasing Niagara, December 8 at Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E Burnside St. Doors open at 8 and the music begins at 9 pm for folks 21+over. Tickets are $10.

• TapWater’s musical inspiration comes from around the globe and features inspired songwriting, musicianship and performance outside the lines of mainstream sounds. The sextet melds banjo, steel pans, piano, accordion, upright bass, guitar, vocal harmonies, drums aplenty and more into highly danceable exotic music steeped deeply in the roots of American tradition.

After 15 years, core members Rudy Slizewski (vocals, guitar, and steel drums), Steve Moore (banjo, lap steel, and vocals), Ravi Laird (guitar and vocals), and Simon Lucas (drums) have been joined by gifted bassist Don Corey. The band studies, explores and borrows from genres across the world while delighting in a shared desire to run it all through their uniquely American filter. Take a sip of TapWater (unfluoridated of course) and download a free tune at tapwatermusic.com.

• Chasing Niagara is a documentary following pro kayaker Rafa Ortiz as he follows his dream to paddle over Niagara Falls. The movie features Freedom in Falling, a TapWater tune. Watch the trailer at tinyurl.com/hch9nbq.
