Ladd’s Addition rose garden alert

HAND residents are very concerned that Portland Parks Bureau is threatening to eliminate nearly $100,000 in maintenance for the Ladd’s Addition Rose Gardens. The loss of these funds would mean:
No mowing the gardens
No pruning the roses
No Park Bureau assistance with gloves, pruners or baskets for Saturday morning deadheading
No pick-up and removal of spent roses and dead canes
No horticulturist assigned to the gardens
No maintenance or part-time workers assigned to the gardens.

It may mean no removal of human waste left by the homeless who sleep under the rhodies in the Center Circle and no pruning of those big shrubs.
The HAND Neighborhood Association does not have an official position or plan. Concerned citizens are encouraged to attend HAND meetings at St. Philip Neri Carvlin Hall, 7 pm on the third Tuesday of every month.
