Sustainable local business

The City of Portland’s Sustai nability at Work program provides free assistance and certification for Portland businesses looking to create a more sustainable workplace. Our businesses have taken a lot of simple, high-impact actions to become certified – from setting up recycling and composting systems and bike parking to adding durable dishware and lowering building energy costs. They received help along the way from the program’s sustainability advisors, who connect businesses to the right resources and troubleshoot challenges.

There are several businesses in SE Portland neighborhoods that have been recently certified through Sustainability at Work for taking actions that have a positive impact on our environment and our community. Here are two of the SE businesses:

Artemis Catering (1235 SE Division #112) is Gold certified and one of the caterers on our Green Caterer list. They offer recycling, composting and food donation to clients. For events, they use durable dishware, food sourced from local purveyors whenever possible and minimally packaged items. They keep their operations green as well by using biodiesel delivery vehicles, offsetting their emissions and cutting back on energy usage.

On-the-Move Community Integration (4187 SE Division) is a nonprofit that contributes thousands of volunteer hours to other Portland-area environmental nonprofits. To reach the volunteer sites, their team uses public transportation. Plus, they’ve taken over 30 actions in waste, energy, water & transportation to green their workplace practices.
