North Tabor Neighborhood Notes January 2013

By Melissa Bockwinkel

It’s Friends of Trees time again!  The FOT planting day for Laurelhurst, Kerns, Sunnyside, and North Tabor is January 19. In North Tabor alone we estimate 40-50 new trees will be planted.  We can always use donations of food items for the breakfast and lunch of our volunteers – a great way to participate of you can’t volunteer to plant with us. Another fun way to participate is by joining one of the Plant by Bike teams, you can sign up at  www.bit.ly/PlantByBike.

The staging site will once again be Sunnyside Methodist Church, 3520 SE Yamhill St. All volunteers for planting day are encouraged to arrive at 8:30 am to enjoy coffee and pastries before heading out. Neighbors interested in contributing food can contact the Neighborhood Coordinating team at NorthTabor@plantitportland.org. If there are any questions, call Erica Timm at 503.467.2533.

SpaceCraft has been selected for the The North Tabor Muralist Project. We thank everyone who submitted an RFP for the project for their time; we saw some beautiful artwork. Muralists met with the NTNA last month and asked for anyone who has lived in the neighborhood for a long time to contact them with pictures or stories about the neighborhood’s past. Look for an upcoming meeting with the muralists in January or February.  Anyone interested in the Mural Project can email NorthTaborMuralProject@gmail.com.

Planning is underway for the North Tabor – Mt. Tabor Annual Cleanup to be held on April 27. If you would like to help, especially with coordinating recycling efforts, call 503.928.4655 or email cleanup@northtabor.org.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 pm Jan. 15 at Emilie House, 5520 NE Glisan. Our February meeting will be a General meeting and we are in the process of confirming some interesting speakers to join us.
