MACBETH at Post5 Theatre opens February 15 presented Fri. to Sun. through March 17 at 7 pm at the Black-box Space, 850 NE Oregon St., 4 blocks south of the Red, Blue, and Green MAX Lines. Tickets are $10. Shakespeare’s dark tale of a ruthless man’s drive to be King under any circumstances is the theatre’s first production. This new take is abridged, intense, fast-paced and visceral. PORTLAND OPEN STUDIOS 2013 applications are open for this year’s October 12, 13 and 19, 20 tour. If your studio is in Portland, Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Aloha, Lake Oswego, or West Linn, apply by March 8, 11 pm, and receive a discount on jury fees. Final deadline is March 15, 2013. Artists 20–30 years of age are encouraged to apply for the Kimberly Gales Scholarship. Recipient has fees waived and receive a $100. PDX VOX, the Community A cappella Program, begins its spring season the first week of February. It’s a singing program for people who love upbeat pop music and want to improve their singing in a friendly, supportive environment.There are no voice auditions, just a low-pressure, recreational program directed by Marie Schumacher with a  13-week season. Instructors work with groups on vocal blending, singing technique, music theory and performance tips. THE RED DOOR PROJECT –This nonprofit organization presents August Wilson’s Century Cycle, ten plays representing the African American experience in the twentieth century. Guided by actor and director mentors, working with local teachers and community leaders, students perform monologues from Wilson’s plays at public Portland auditions. Top finalists compete in finals held in New York. The Project is establishing a network of educators and theatre artists to help find young people to participate. Find out more.
