THE WIZARD OF OZ is performed by Franklin High School April 11, 12, 19, and 20 (7 pm). Matinees April 13 and 21 (2 pm). The production features 80+ students and follows the Yellow Brick Road with colorful sets and special effects. Recommended for children over 7. The school is at 5405 SE Woodward. The theater is at the east end  behind the gym. $5 for students/seniors, $10 for adults, at the door.

 

PADAM PADAM’s European cabaret sounds in the Old World bohemian spirit of Vie de Bohème, 1530 SE 7th Ave. Sunday, April 7. Step back in time and enjoy the passion and romance of this entertaining quintet. $5. A new crop of tunes and signature covers of Edith Piaf, Brecht and Weill, Tom Waits and others. THE WESTERN HUMMINGBIRD LORNA MILLER performs with string wizard Walter Cryderman, part of Jaime Leopold’s Music Salon at Jade Lounge, 2342 SE Ankeny St. Monday April 22, 7 pm. With music from the early 20th and 21st century, Miller plays jazz, western swing, country blues, folk and unforgettable originals on guitar and dobro. ZIMBABWE ARTISTS PROJECT (ZAP) Spring International Celebration takes place Saturday, April 27 at the Olympic Mills Commerce Center, 107 SE Washington St. Suite 162, from 2-6 pm. It’s a Spring marketplace of fairly-traded items from around the world with live Zimbabwean music and guest presenter Thom Hartmann, internationally syndicated radio talkshow host. Purchases help support work done by many like-minded satellite groups. ZAP helps artists from rural Weya in Eastern Zimbabwe become economically self-sufficient. www.zimbabweartistsproject.org

 

RELUCTANT HEALER-THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DR. RALPH WEISS, EDGAR CAYCE’S PHYSICIAN. is a new book by Steven Bailey, N.D. There will be a book-signing Friday April 19 at K&F Coffee House, 2706 SE 26th Ave. If it were not for an accidental meeting between Bailey and Dr. Weiss, perhaps this story would not have been told.

 

SPRING IN STEP – a concert featuring The Portland Chamber Group Saturday, April 13, 7 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal Church, 82nd Ave. and SE Ash. The program has music by Copland, Bach, Schumann, Shostakovich and the Dave Matthews Band (!). Guest artist is Amalia Etedgee, Fullbright scholar. $7 donation, $4 students and seniors, kids 10 and under free.
