Thank you to everyone who attended the Neighborhood Clean-Up! It was a big success and the neighborhood wishes to thank our partners and participants.
Exciting economic topics were discussed at the May neighborhood meeting. A new grocery in Montavilla is expected to open July 1 at the former Safeway location on 82nd Avenue and Burnside. The store will offer mostly Asian products as well as traditional non-Asian items, two produce sections and a small café with multicultural options. Additionally, the newly formed and rapidly expanding Jade District that touches Montavilla has reached out to recruit a neighborhood liaison. Neighbors are invited to support local businesses by attending June’s First Fridays along the Stark Street business district, running between SE 76th and SE 82nd Ave and beyond. Businesses are open late and hosting art openings, live music and more!
Monthly meetings are a great way to connect with neighbors and to learn about exciting events upcoming for the summer. Join us in June to learn about approaching Concerts in the Park, Playgrounds in the Park (with free lunches for children), a planned Public Safety Workshop that includes information on forming neighborhood watches, and much more. Join us each second Monday at 7:30 pm at Montavilla United Methodist Church, 232 SE 80th Ave. Parking and childcare are free and plentiful. Next meeting is June 10. Great new Montavilla t-shirts and tote bags will be available.
