SE PORTLAND ARTWALK is Sat. March 1 and Sun. March 2 2014 and is open to artists in the metro area and even beyond..All mediums and artistic levels of artists are welcome. 2014 Artwalk boundaries are SE 9th – SE 41st Ave and SE Hawthorne to SE Powell Blvd. Early Bird Deadline for registration is November 15 for $45. IT’S GONNA BE OKAY is a free stand up comedy show held the first and third Mondays ach month at Eastburn, 1800 E Burnside St. Hosted by Huffington Post comedian columnist extrordinaire Barbara Holm, the series showcases the best local and travelling nationally-known comics. Beginning at 8:30 pm, November 4 features Nathan Brannon, Anatoli Brandt, Whitney Streed, Shane Torres and Katie Nguyen. SEUSSICAL, THE MUSICAL! by the David Douglas High School Performing Arts Department Nov. 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 7:30 pm and matinees Nov. 17 and 24 at 2:30 pm. Travel from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus as the The Cat in the Hat tells how Horton discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Tickets $8 for students and seniors: $10 Adults. TEMPOWARYLY: SERIOUSLY FRIVOLOUS movement installation performance floats “between the worlds of contemporary conceptual dance, abstract theater and performance/visual-art” is presented the full moon weekend of November. “An abstract rumination on the proclivity to define, yet the inability to know.” Sound elliptical enough? Friday-Sunday Nov. 15- 17 at Performance Works NorthWest, 4625 SE 67th Ave. (Foster/Holgate area). Each night’s exploration begins precisely at 7:37 pm and tickets are $11 – $16 general admission at the door.

 

POP ART PINUP STUDIOS, 211 SE Madison has created a 2014 calendar available online at popartpinup.com and sold offline at Future Dreams Books and Bridge City Comics. The studio offers custom photo shoots for the holidays. To ensure photos are ready by Christmas, customers must book sittings by Saturday, December 14. Gift certificates for custom packages available too.

 

LATE NIGHT ACTION, an original live talk show at Action/Adventure Theater, 1050 SE Clinton St. is hosted by comedian Alex Falcone, his sidekick Bri Pruett, bands and comics from the Portland scene too. Saturday, November 9 and Saturday, December 7, at 10:30 pm, tickets are $10 advance/$15 at the door, See actionadventure.org. MALEFICIA, by String House Theatre is directed by Joel Harmon, presented Nov. 8-10 / Nov 15-16 at Shout House, 210 SE Madison St., Ste 11. From the trials of European and American Witch panics to recent hysteria over Satanic rituals, the performance professes to be a time-travelling, non-verbal exploration of how fear of the unknown can lead well-meaning citizens to commit horrific acts of cruelty.
