World-renowned, virtuosic autoharp master Bryan Bowers performs live in concert December 13 at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church; 2800 SE Harrison St. It has been several years since he was in Portland.
Bowers has refined and redefined autoharp playing several times over. In concert, he is engaging, enchanting and highly regarded as a songwriter as well. His treatment of traditonal and contemporary songs is unique and his contagious energy is inspiring and entertaining.
In 2011, he released Crabby Old Man, an “anti-produced and unvarnished” recording with a dozen tunes from his vast repertoire. The CD has no editing, overdubs or compression and sounds like he’s in your living room in an intimate, up-close musical visit.
“Bowers is to the autoharp what Earl Scruggs was to the five-string banjo” His instrumental dexterity combines with warmth, humor, eloquence and expression.
The concert, presented by Portland FolkMusic Society, begins at 7:30 pm. Doors at 7. Tickets are $17 door, $14 PFS members. Come early as seating is limited. See www.portlandfolkmusic.org.
