Portland Cello Project Winter Concert

apcpPortland Cello Project has been presenting annual Winter shows for nearly ten years and the 2014 edition is  December 5 and 6 at the Aladdin Theatre, 3017 SE Milwaukie Ave. The performance features compositions and arrangements of winter-themed music from numerous cultures and there’ll be re-imagined pieces by composers diverse as J.S. Bach and Elliott Smith. Joining the group will be special guests Ural Thomas and the Pain.

The performance will celebrate the new Cello Project recording, To E. S. Co-produced by Portland’s Larry Crane of Jackpot Studios who worked with Elliot Smith, the album consists of 6 of Smith’s songs as well as 6 commissioned pieces with Smith as a starting point by Rachel Grimes, Peter Broderick, Horse Feathers and Nancy Ives of the Oregon Symphony. PCP has worked with Crane since their first album in 2008 and this project were inspired by a new documentary about Smith released this year and the 10th anniversary of his passing.
