Ah, February – the month when we can easily show a little love. Hawthorne Boulevard businesses enjoy February because more neighbors join us to see the beginnings of Spring in the windows, share a meal, see a movie, shop and walk the Boulevard to see what winter changes have transpired. A new building here, a wall of a different color there: Blackbird Pizza opening soon at SE 20th and Hawthorne, the flower and vegetable beds at Hankins Hardware at 17th waiting for their plantings and more activity every day welcome us to another year in the District.  Happy Valentine’s Day (and every day) to our businesses, neighbors, the community and country we all live and work in.

Plans are made for the Annual meeting Feb 19. The website is being reenergized with Innovator Sponsorships from Fred Meyer, Presents of Mind and Realty Trust who stepped up to meet the match for the Venture Portland website grant.

We’re already hearing from travelers, musicians and others who want to be at HBBA’s Annual Street Fair on Sunday, August 16.  Kick Kick Score was such fun last year, we may have a few opportunities to practice your kicks as you stroll through the Fair. Be sure to let your out-of-town friends know that’s a good time to come visit.

Thank you to Artisan Laboratories, Asylum, Buffalo Exchange, Fred’s Sound of Music, Grand Central Bakery, Hawthorne Gardens, Hot Lips Pizza, Imelda’s & Louie’s Shoes, McMenamin’s Bagdad, Presents of Mind and Western Seminary for stepping up to support HBBA’s work as Membership Sponsors.

Thank you to article sponsors, Hawthorne Vision Center and The SE Examiner and to 2015 HBBA Benefactor to date: Hawthorne’s Burgerville.
