Napoleon Dynamite will be shown for free at Sewallcrest Park, Saturday, August 22. The pre-movie band starts at 6:30 and the film begins at dusk (approximately 8:30). Get there early – this is a popular event. There will be a great raffle, food carts, and Mr. Lizard’s Mobile Reptile Zoo.

ODOT offers an Open House for the Powell Blvd. Safety Project concerning Powell Blvd between SE 20th and SE 30th Avenues on Thursday, July 30, from 5 – 7 pm at Catholic Charities, 1st Floor CafĂ©, 2740 SE Powell Blvd. The purpose of the project is to enhance the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists on this busy section of Powell Blvd.

Silvia Gozzini introduced Resolutions Northwest and the free or low-cost mediation and facilitation services offered to youths, neighbors, families, businesses, and community groups. For example, a special RNA meeting was held a week later on July 22 at the Waverly Heights Church concerning issues raised over the recent RNA Board election.

Justin Johnson, owner of Genie’s Too, who purchased the Space Room ten months ago (4800 SE Hawthorne), spoke of the policy, personnel, and building changes he has made to date rendering his business much more neighbor-friendly. He intends to actively cooperate with nearby businesses.

The Board approved a donation to help maintain the Sewallcrest Community Garden based on the benefits the garden confers on local inhabitants. Potential agenda items include Garden expansion and adding to the Tool Library.

A Salt & Straw and UDP Good Neighbor Agreement was discussed then adopted by the RNA Board. The issue of street clutter was also raised. After a brief discussion, it was suggested that we contact the Division/Clinton Business Association about supporting garbage cans and clutter control along Division with everyone doing their fair share.

We heard an update about the Mixed Use Zones Project.  This effort is rewriting all the Commercial Zones in the City.  Most Richmond commercial land will be rezoned CM-2.

The next RNA meeting will be Monday August 10, 7 – 9 pm at the Waverly Heights Church, SE 33rd and Woodward St.
