Wow! Thank you to Hawthorne business people, visiting vendors, musicians, other entertainers and the neighbors and visitors who made this year’s Hawthorne Street Fair a delightful success. Oases of green were spread from SE 32nd to Cesar Chavez – and many other businesses and areas from SE Maple Street up to Seahorses, New Seasons, the Fernie Brae, Por Que No and the Sapphire Hotel had a busy day, too. Many people’s energy goes into creating an event that draws 15,000 people.

Thank you to the Planning Committee, Molly Renauer’s Mt Tabor Middle School Art students, who were so creative we published a 16 month calendar, and the day of event staff and volunteers. Thank yous to Amos Hunter, Imelda’s & Louie’s and Peter Gefroh, student, for the poster; Nick Cruz, Ruby Jewel Ice Cream, Liz Potter, New Seasons Market and Francis Printing for the calendar; Jeff Cole, a Sunnyside neighbor, for the vendor placement design and marking, Matt Galli and the Fred Meyer crew for morning set-up, the sod-laying and tear down in the evening.

Thank you also to Bagdad Theater for the History lesson, Kids at Heart for a great kids’ area, Michael Beach, Gregg Harris, aka Teddy Roosevelt, John Chassaing, and the Rivermark Stage crew and bands and to Roger Jones and David Ashton for the photo stories. Thanks also to Evan Schlaes for the “Reverso” event.

Extra Special Thanks to Katie Meyer of Block Party Barricades who was there until everything looked right.

And now, mark your calendars for the Hawthorne Holiday Stroll on December 5.

We also appreciate our article sponsors: Hawthorne Vision Center and The SE Examiner and 2015 HBBA Benefactors and Major Sponsors: Hawthorne’s New Seasons Market, Rivermark CCU, Portland Cider Co., Por Que No, Safeway, Burgerville, Kids at Heart, Really Good Stuff and Fred Meyer.
