South Tabor October 2015

The 6th annual Harvest Fest in September was again a total success. Trinity Fellowship cut their Sunday service short and every able-bodied person was ready and willing to help set up for a promising success of the day. Couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather.

Music by three different bands, BBQ’d hot dogs, corn on the cob, freshly-pressed cider, a whopping ‘Bouncy House’ kept the children happily screaming, a station for construction of corn husk dolls occupied both curious children and adults, face painting created beauty or scary animal faces and all were pretty tired at the end of the day.

At the monthly meeting, businessman Tin Le, DMD, suggested a committee form to plan a way to have a ‘paying forward’ system created and put into action. He is offering volunteers a reduced fee for dental work at a limited number per month.

A Portland Public Schools (PPS) notice proposed a Conditional Use review approval to reestablish the school use at the PPS Kellogg School site at 6909 SE Powell Blvd. ‘PPS intends to use the cafeteria and gymnasium for PPS trainings and district-wide meetings for two years (Oct. 2015-Aug. 2017).

The proposed K-8 school will have an enrollment of 500 students and begin operating in 2017-18 (August 2017). Additional information about the City of Portland, city bureaus and a digital copy of the Portland Zoning Code is available at www.portlandonline.com

The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability SE District Liaison Marty Stockton will be present at the October Land Use Committee meeting to discuss the latest Recommended Draft of the Comprehensive Plan. It includes revisions to commercial zoning recommendations in the South Tabor neighborhood. Meeting is set and open to all for Tues., October 20, 7 pm at Trinity Fellowship, 2700 SE 67th, entrance from parking lot.
