EVER WONDER ABOUT THAT BUCKMAN MURAL? – The Art Of Mural Painting, two films screened free at the Mission Theater, 1624 NW Glisan St., Thursday December 10 at 7 pm feature Joe Cotter’s Buckman Community Mural, a portrait of the artist and the mural on the south-facing wall of the Plaid Pantry at SE 12th Ave and Morrison St. [Cotter (1949-2012) advocated tirelessly for changing Portland’s mural rules and was inspired by Mexican muralist Diego Rivera] and the 1989 documentary, Diego Rivera: I Paint What I See. LORNA MILLER AND WALTER CRYDERMAN continue their monthly residency every first Monday at The Landmark Saloon, 4847 SE Division St. This month is December 7 and the music begins at 6 pm. It’s a  no cover evening with the duo and two sets of original contemporary folk, country blues and traditional tunes as well – westernhummingbird.com.

THE OTHER “I” IN ART MULTIMEDIA EVENT – Action/Adventure Theatre teams with PNCA students for a night of visual art, video and music, December 5 at 1050 SE Clinton St. Doors at 7 pm, performances at 8 pm. Curator Gabrijel Savic Ra says the title is a play on the Alter Ego (The Other I) and what form the ego takes in the artistic process. The evening features artist ADOS 33 (Avery L Gilbert II); Anunnaki Pirate Radio, artist Palash Bhattacharjee from Chittagong, Bangladesh; documentary photographer Nica Aquino; architect Hormone Sekine; Serbian painter and filmmaker Vojislav Radovnovic; Serbian photo journalist Andjela Stevanovic; artist Insa Evans and others. $10 at the door, $5 with a student ID.

VOODOO CATBOX POSTER SCRATCH & DENT SALE is an annual event at Music Millennium, 3158 E Burnside St. The show displays the nearly legendary poster work of local Gary Houston, who, under the name Voodoo Catbox, is known for making silk-screen posters, hand-screened, signed and numbered in limited runs for live music events. 12X16GALLERY TEN is a celebration of ten years of 12×16 Gallery, originally on SE Division St., has given so many artists their first show, mounted mid and late career retrospectives, posthumous exhibitions and guest-curated group shows. WINTER CONCERTS AT WARNER PACIFIC feature the college’s students and will warm your ears and heart. Wed. Dec. 2, hear the Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz group at 7:30 pm; Sun. Dec. 6 is a Choral concert at 3 pm; and Fri. December 11, the Wind Ensemble performs at 7:30 pm. QUENTIN TARANTINO’S THE HATEFUL EIGHT screens in Ultra Panavision 70mm opens Christmas day for a two week run at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. A new epic western set in post-Civil War Wyoming, the movie stars Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson as bounty hunters. The two seek refuge from a blizzard with two others in a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. It is the first film shot in Ultra Panavision 70mm film since 1966 and includes a score by Ennio Morricone. Tickets are available now at hollywoodtheatre.org

STARK STREET STUDIOS & GALLERY, 2809 SE Stark St. hosts its annual Holiday Sale featuring ten ceramic artists and a jeweler, December 5 and 6. Featured artists are Charlie Piatt, Julie Stewart, Sherri Aytche, Babette Harvey, Amy Fields and six others. Gallery hours through December 24 are 11 am – 6 pm.
