2016 looks to be a busy year for the BCA. We’re planning two public candidate forums this spring and our annual picnic for August. On March 10, BCA hosts a forum for City Council contenders. April 14, we’ll have the Mayoral race candidates. Plan to come, meet the candidates and listen as they answer our field of tough questions. Both forums start at 7 pm. We’ll have refreshments and children are welcome. You can submit questions prior. Just send to buckmanboard@googlegroups.com. BCA meets every 2nd Thursday of each month in the Multnomah County Board Room from 7 to 9 pm, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. The Board meeting precedes starting at 6:20 pm. On the third Thursday, the Land Use Meeting is held from 7-8:30 pm, same space.
For our February 11 meeting Parks staff will attend to update us on the planned gating of the Colonel Summers Pavilion as well as the new Splash Pad planned for the park. The Central City SE Quadrant Final Plan will be presented by Planning Bureau staff. This area encompasses all of Buckman west of 12th Ave. A presentation from the Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) will help neighbors get dialed in with preparations for the “Big One” and other potential crisis situations.
Did this year’s leaf days leave you wishing for change? Attend this month and voice your concerns as we work with the city to request improvements. Interested in creating fun? Volunteer now to help us coordinate the summer BCA picnic Sunday, August 14. We’ve got the park, the music, the funds and know-how… now we just need you.
BCA is the Neighborhood Association for anyone who lives, works, owns property and/or has a strong interest in the Buckman Neighborhood bounded by Hawthorne Blvd., 28th Ave., Burnside St. and the Willamette River. All are welcome at our monthly meetings and we regularly go to the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne afterwards to socialize. Come join us!
