Mardi Gras, Movies and Gumbo

Break out your Mardi Gras finest and celebrate Fat Tuesday with a night of film, music and great Cajun food Tuesday, Feb 9 at 7 pm as Clinton Street Theatre screens two classic documentaries from the great Les Blank. His films about Southern culture are the crux of the biscuit and gravy. Costumes and masks are most welcome too.

Dry Wood, from 1973, is one of a number of Blank’s unforgettable films on Lousiana life and culture; a glimpse into the life, food, and Mardi Gras celebrations of Creoles in French Louisiana, featuring the stories and music of “Bois Sec” Ardoin and Canray Fontenot.
Always For Pleasure, from 1978 is an intense insider’s portrait of New Orleans street celebrations filled with Second-line parades, Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Music performance from Professor Longhair, the Wild Tchoupitoulas, the Neville Brothers and more. Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?
Jamabalaya, gumbo and cornbread will be available too for a small donation. Something’s always cooking at Clinton Street. See cstpdx.com for the montly schedule.
