Mysti Krewe of Nimbus Mardi Gras Ball

Portland’s annual Mardi Gras Ball has been listed by the New Orleans Times-Picayune as one of the Top-5 most authentic Mardi Gras celebrations in the United States outside of Louisiana and this is its 6th big year.
amardigrasdogProduced since 2010 by the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus (a NOLA-style social club founded by Louisiana expatriates), this year’s theme is Life is a Carnival and Saturday, February 6 at the Wonder Ballroom, 128 NE Russell St. is the day.
A critical mass of Louisiana revelry with full costume finery – the crazy, the macabre, the funny, the sexy, the rude and high-spirited bursts forth. The Northside Skull And Bones Gang launch the ball, led by New Orleans native and drummer Chuk Barber, a former Flagboy who transplanted the tradition when he relocated here post Katrina.
Live music includes Blocco Allegria Samba Band; the Bridgetown Sextet; the Too Loose Cajun and Zydeco Band; and a PDX All-Star Tribute to the late, great Allen Toussaint with indie, Americana, folk, blues, and jazz artists who perform in the annual Next Waltz concert: Steve Kerin, Taylor John Williams, Karen Lovely, Kris Deelane, Jennifer Smieja, Michael Quinby, Dan Berkery, Lewi Longmire, Christopher Worth, Mary Sue Tobin, Zak Borden, Katy Oberg and more.
Buy tickets in advance as last year’s event sold out weeks before the date. Tickets are $30 adv., $35 door for 21+. Doors open at 7 pm, show is at 8 pm.
