In this story, the Prieto family struggles to maintain appearances in a society that measures worth based on material possessions. A brilliant and hilarious dissection of family life and the fragility of love, the title translates literally to ‘With You, Bread and Onion,’ (not unlike ‘through thick and thin’).
Thursdays through Sundays February 11 – March 5 at El Centro Milagro, 525 SE Stark St. in Spanish with English supertitles. The play was written in 1962 and had its Cuban premiere in 1964. The bilingual version, Rice and Beans, was produced in the United States by INTAR in 1979.
Adult tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets at milagro.org 503.236.7253. Discounts for students, seniors, veterans, groups 15+, and with the Oregon Trail card through the Arts for All program. There will be a conversation with the cast and members of the creative team after the 2 pm matinee Sunday, February 14.
