Buckman July 2016

By Susan Lindsay

Just 6 weeks until the fabulous annual BCA, “Buckman Picnic in the Park” , Sunday August 14, 4 – 8 pm at Colonel Summers Park, SE 17th and Taylor St. This free neighborhood picnic and community celebration, conducted as a part of National Night Out Week features a delicious BBQ plate, children’s games (bouncy castle), live music and fun stuff to do.

Non-profits are welcome to set up an informational booth. You’ll need a canopy and bring games or treats to share. Everyone bring the kids, your friends and family, and especially lawn games to enjoy the afternoon.

This is an all volunteer produced event and we are in need of a Picnic Coordinator(s) and especially volunteers to take shifts to serve food. Contact the buckmanpicnicteam@googlegroups.com to sign up and to let us know you want to help.  Thank you in advance for volunteering.

BCA Board elections took place Thursday, June 9. Six new members were elected to the Board. Sil Pienovi, Rick Johnson, Laren Leland, Courtney Graham, Sam Noble, and Jeff Burnes. Congratulations.

We say goodbye to departing Board members, Joe Bloniarz, Matt Brischetto, Zach Brooks, Anthony Buczek, Julie Radloff and especially BCA Co-Chair, Lake Strongheart McTighe. Thank you for your service and work with committees and special projects.

The July Buckman Voice takes articles. Copy is due July 7. Send short, neighborhood-related articles to Jason Werner, our new Buckman Voice Editor JasonRaymondWerner@gmail.com. Also, we need newsletter delivery volunteers. It takes about an hour or two at most and all neatly organized for you. Contact Nancy Oberschmidt: nancyoberschmidt@gmail.com.

The next BCA General Meeting will be 7 – 9 pm, Thursday, July 14, and the Land Use Meeting, 7 – 8:30 pm on July 21. On July 14, we have invited Marc Jolin to come and talk to meeting attendees about homeless issues and the efforts taking place to help.  Share your ideas and insights. Both meetings are held in the Multnomah County Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. After meeting social time occurs regularly at the nearby Lucky Lab.
