Hawthorne business people and HBBA are working on a Forum to pull together security, mental health and crime prevention professionals as part of developing a plan of action to keep the Boulevard safe and clean for customers, neighbors, employees and vendors. Join Hawthorne Boulevard Business Association’s FB page for the date and time as soon as it is officially scheduled.

New businesses and residents often don’t realize the role HBBA has played for 32 years in working with its businesses, property owners and neighbors to create a District that is attractive, provides for our community’s needs and recognizes important occasions and new visitors.

For example: In 1986 Hawthorne Blvd. was officially proclaimed as “The Boulevard of Flags” in recognition of the seven holidays a year that American Flags are placed on the Boulevard.  Over time, in addition to HBBA, the local Lion’s Club, the Eagles, JaCiva’s owners, Jack and Iva Elmer, and now, Boy Scout Troop # 24 have supported and maintained the 80+ flags flying on our major holidays.

In 2005, the canvas Welcome banners were installed and continue to be maintained by HBBA. The wind, tall vehicles and other pole equipment installations have left some holes that HBBA hopes to raise funds to fill soon in addition to replacing the disappearing trash containers.

In the meantime, calendar the Street Fair for August 28. There will be great music at SE 34th, entertainment for children and their adults on SE 35th sponsored by Kids at Heart and HBBA, store specials and services that the Hawthorne area offers every day and community non-profits and interesting vendors, too. Thank you to our Golden Street Fair Sponsors: Fred Meyer Hawthorne and Rivermark Community Credit Union.

Thank you article sponsors: Hawthorne Vision Center, Rivermark Community Credit Union and 2016 Benefactors Fred Meyer and New Seasons Market.
