Mt. Tabor  Nov 2016

By Laura Smith

Construction activity related to the Mt. Tabor Park reservoir project will ramp up again starting the first week of November. Work was postponed this summer to reduce the impact to park goers, residents along SE Lincoln St., and the community garden there.

During construction hours (Monday – Friday 7 am to 6 pm), the park entrance on SE Lincoln St. will be closed to vehicle traffic, but residents will be allowed on the street to access their driveways. A pedestrian and bicycle traffic pathway will be established around the construction work at that park entrance and will be open at all times. Access to the Off-Leash Dog Park will be on the gravel path off of SE 64th Ave. between SE Lincoln and Grant streets and off of SE Harrison via SE 68th Ave.  Go to portlandoregon.gov/water/mttabor for more information.

Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Association board members have continued to meet with Water Bureau representatives to reassess the historic structures and determine which work needed is deferred maintenance and what is restoration work.

A Portland Police officer attending the MTNA October meeting and provided information about addressing criminal activity in homeless camps. Police currently can’t intervene if someone sets up a tent, but police can take action if someone engages in criminal activity. If you witness criminal activity at a homeless campsite, call 911.  However, should you have or see other concerning issues, call the Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s Information and Referral line at 503.823.4000.

SE Uplift is looking for feedback from the community on a new use for Tabor Commons, the property at 5633 SE Division St. and site of the now closed Café au Play.  Learn more about the history and context of this site and take the survey on SE Uplift’s website: seuplift.org.

If you live, own property, maintain a business, or are a representative of a nonprofit organization located with the geographical boundaries of the MTNA, then you are automatically a member. Join us at the next meeting, Wednesday, November 16 at 7 pm at Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church at SE 54th and Belmont, with social time starting 6:50 pm.
