STNA hosts an Emergency Preparedness Workshop, Saturday, May 13, from noon to 4 pm for STNA and surrounding neighborhoods. The location and speakers/activities will be announced in upcoming issues. This will be an outdoor event and attendees will go home with something to add to or start their emergency kit. All neighborhoods are invited.

Division Transit Project – 60’ long articulated buses will be coming to SE Division Street in 2021 as part of the Division Transit Project.  John Carr, a local neighbor, brought information from Portland Clear Air and TriMet on the Division Transit Project and the articulated buses. Currently TriMet is in the process of designing the project now.

The agency’s default choice for the buses is diesel which have higher CO2 emissions and more engine noise than battery-electric. Electric buses provide zero tailpipe emissions, up to 75% fewer lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions, a much quieter ride, and low street noise, and they pay for themselves in fuel and maintenance savings within about 6 years. Bus life in general is an average of 12+ years. To see the fact sheet John presented, visit portlandcleanair.org/files/divisionbus.pdf.

To voice support for electric buses on Division, contact TriMet’s General Manager Neil McFarlane at:  mcfarlan@trimet.org. TriMet has purchased 5 electric buses to arrive in 2018. Let’s propose that they test them on the No. 4 route here on Division. The City of Portland has pledged to be all electric by 2035. Let’s start on Division.

John informed us that there are a couple well known bus companies that have tested and proven electric buses. BYD and New Flyer are companies that manufacture in the US and have proven electric buses. Seattle has been using some electric buses for several years now.

Neighbors brought information on a possible proposal for the 7 Dees site on 62nd and Powell. A site plan has been filed with the city with a hearing that will be/was held on January 26. The proposal is asking to add a 900 unit, 3 story, long term storage facility.  The proposal indicated there would be 22 parking spaces with entrance and loading dock entrances from SE 62nd. If this goes through, it is proposed to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the leasing office and personnel on site from 9 am – 6 pm most days of the week. No staff or people will be onsite after hours.

Renaissance will be building the 7-10 new homes on the adjacent sites at 7 Dees.

Other items of note: We’re looking for someone to take the lead in working with Warner Pacific College on this summer’s Movie in the Park.

Our next Land Use Meeting is Tuesday, February 14 at 7 pm. Our regular neighborhood meeting is Thursday February 16, at 7 pm. Both meetings will be held at Trinity Fellowship, 2700 SE 67th Ave. See you there.
