Winterfolk XXIX

The Winterfolk concert has for nearly 30 years presented live acoustic music to the community and supported a very good cause. This year, Winterfolk is Saturday February 18 at 7 pm and for the first time, it will be held at Alberta Rose Theatre, 3000 NE Alberta St.

This year, Winterfolk 29 welcomes headliner Cosy Sheridan, from Moab, Utah. Along the way she’s taken the Kerrville, Texas and Telluride, Colorado songwriting titles and performed from Carnegie Hall to the Puget Sound Guitar workshop.

Cosy Sheridan

Her songs are wry, incisive, and entertaining, fusing modern culture with myth and wild storytelling. Her deft, articulate guitar accompaniment is clear, playful, percussive and expressive.

Other performers this year are Winterfolk founder and director Tom May, with bassist and vocalist Donny Wright and Matt Snook on dobro; co-director Richard Colombo with Laurie Linn; Grammy award-winning guitarist Doug Smith; Portland treasure Matt Meighan; environmental songwriter/activist visual artist Alexa Wiley and Seattle’s Jaspar Lepak.

The beneficiary is Sisters of the Road Café, the longstanding organization who continues to provide low cost and no cost meals in Portland’s Old  Town  neighborhood. Every dollar raised at Winterfolk goes to the people it is intended to help. Founded over 40 years ago, Sisters remains a nationally- recognized example of reaching out and helping to change peoples lives, one hot meal at a time. sistersoftheroad.org

Tickets are available in advance at the Alberta Rose Theatre box office (albertarosetheatre.com) and Music Millenium. $32 in advance and  $30 at the door.
