Mt. Tabor December 2017

By Laura Smith

A community meeting held November 2 by the Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Association (MTNA) to discuss proposed car diverters at SE 50th Ave. and Lincoln St. was well attended and resulted in great feedback from neighbors. MTNA will formally send the feedback, ideas and concerns to Dan Saltzman and PBOT.

There are actions neighbors can take now: call Dan Saltzman’s office and voice your concerns, take the PBOT survey online, attend the December 5 PBOT open house at Atkinson Elementary School from 6 -7:30 pm, and call the Leah Treat, director of PBOT, and voice your concerns. For more information, go to: portlandoregon.gov/transportation/75123

There have been rumors in the neighborhood about a sale of the Western Seminary property, but the MTNA land use committee has been assured by the seminary owners that they are just rumors. The owners told MTNA that they want to remain in the neighborhood but are looking for ways to make it financially sustainable. If you have any fundraising project ideas about how neighbors can help or if you want to help in the effort, send an email to MTNA at contact.mtna@gmail.com.

Restoration repairs on Mt. Tabor Reservoir 1 have begun. It’s the smallest and oldest of the open reservoirs and is located on the south side of Mt. Tabor Park. The new, more historically appropriate fence between Reservoirs 5 and 6 is scheduled to be installed on December 4.

Join us at our January 17 MTNA meeting for an update about the Mt. Tabor Reservoirs restoration and preservation projects to be funded by the $4 million commitment from the City of Portland.

MTNA takes a hiatus during the month of December, so, the next meeting will be Wednesday, January 17, at 7 pm at Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church at SE 54th and Belmont, with social time and homemade cookies starting 6:50 pm. For more information, visit mttaborpdx.org.
