The hard-working acoustic quartet True North, opens the 2019 concert season for Portland FolkMusic Society, January 18 at the Reedwood Friends Church at 2901 SE Steele St. with the music beginning at 7:30 pm.
The group performs music rooted in traditional folk and bluegrass and singer-songwriters Kristen Grainger and Dan Wetzel, Martin Stevens and Josh Adkins make it real with accomplished instrumentation and heart-moving voices. The band’s Open Road, Broken Heart, debuted at number 1 on the Folk DJ Charts for national radio airplay.
With an intelligent and memorable repertoire and harmonies right where you want them, this music fits into the Oregon landscape where the natural world has not yet been paved over.
The band is made up of Grainger (who is making a name for herself collecting awards at Wildflower! Music Festival,Telluride, Merlefest, and Kerrville songwriting searches); her writing partner, multi-instrumentalist Wetzel on guitar; the award-winning stringman Stevens, a fiddler since childhood who knows mandolins too and founder of The Bluegrass Regulators;Â and bassist Adkins, also a member of The Bluegrass Regulators. truenorthband.com
